how to celebrate yourself in everyday moments

Celebrating yourself may just be the key to happiness and self love.

Self celebration is honoring who you are, recognizing your achievements and milestones, being proud of yourself and finding ways to show yourself appreciation.

There are many ways to celebrate all that you are. And I think as a society we’re constantly trying to be humble and give other people their flowers, which is great and noble.

But it’s just as important to give yourself the flowers.

So let’s explore some ways you can celebrate yourself. And let’s start with some examples of things that you can celebrate yourself for:

Examples of things to celebrate about yourself

-              getting a promotion or new job

-              getting yourself out of a funk

-              completing a hard task

-              cooking a meal when you haven’t felt like it

-              handling a situation well and with grace

Examples of things to celebrate in life

-              waking up in the morning

-              having a job and a way to provide for yourself

-              maintaining good friendships and relationships

-              owning/renting an apartment or home

ways to celebrate an accomplishment

If you’ve reached a new milestone in your goals, landed a cool opportunity, received recognition for something you did, or any other recent accomplishment, take the time to celebrate that!

pop some bubbles & have a celebratory dinner: Be proud of yourself for your accomplishments, and take yourself out for a nice meal, or cook something yummy at home. Who doesn’t love a good celebratory dinner?

Bring out the champagne if you desire, and remind yourself that you are smart and capable and so good at what you do. Take in the good feeling, and let that continue to motivate you to reach all your goals.

add to your praise folder: Something I like to do at work is keep “good job” or “congratulations” emails in a specific folder in my outbox. I also like to hold on to letters and sweet notes people have written to me in one of my desk drawers.

I look back at it when I need a moment to reflect on my accomplishments and to silently celebrate my impact on the company and others around me. I love when people celebrate me and my accomplishments, but I love reading them back to celebrate myself again.

celebrate yourself on your birthday

Celebrating your birthday alone is great because you can plan your own itinerary with all your favorite activities and meals -- without fearing disappointment or pressure from others.

So here are some self love birthday ideas for you to celebrate on your own:

get yourself a cake: I love birthday cake. It’s one of my favorite (if not favorite) things about birthdays. I like to find a cute design on Pinterest or TikTok to give a bakery for inspiration. There’s something so special about having your own cake, and you can even enjoy it the whole week.

treat yourself with a gift: We all love gifts, right? I know you’ve been eyeing a piece of jewelry, a purse, cute shoes, a new electronic or appliance, decorations for your apartment or home, or something! Splurge on yourself and get something special (or a couple things) that you know you’ll like.

solo restaurant date: Go out for a birthday meal. It really can be breakfast, lunch or dinner. Birthday dinners and meals are such a common way to celebrate you, so I think going out and enjoying yourself at a nice spot is such a great way to practice self love.

quiet progress and celebrating yourself in private

It’s okay, and sometimes preferred, to work on your goals and celebrate in private. Not everyone needs a front row seat to what you have going on. And not everyone you share your news or progress with will be encouraging and uplifting.

Quiet progress is working on your goals and making achievements without telling people updates on your progress. It allows you to focus on your personal growth without letting distractions and outside noise get in the way of your accomplishments.

It is helpful for self love because it puts external validation in the back of your list of priorities, and it transforms your mind to look within yourself to be proud of the little moments.

Quiet progress is about learning how to celebrate yourself. Notice your own life updates and applaud yourself for what others aren’t able to applaud you for.

You know better than anyone how hard you’ve worked and how much you’ve grown, so thank yourself for all the work you’re putting in for your dreams.

Celebrate and treat yourself for everything you’ve done to make yourself proud recently and all your mini accomplishments to reaching your bigger goals.
