self care tips for girls who love to party

I love going out with my friends, and I love to have a good time. What isn’t fun is hangxiety, feeling sick, sleeping in your makeup or getting lost while drunk.

You can be healthy, a career woman, have standards, etc. and still love to party and have a good time. Going out doesn’t diminish your character and value. It’s a fun thing to do, as long as you’re safe.

Smart girls prepare for a night out by making sure they have all their essentials, prepping for a “drunk you” to come home to and staying safe while outside.

At Self Love Diaries, we love self care! So this article is all about how to have a great time out on the town, while also taking care of yourself.

Here’s a few self care tips for the next time you’re in the mood to party.

don't let a bad night out turn into a weekend of self criticism.

Hangxiety makes me want to crawl into a ball and hide from the world, especially when I find out I did or said something embarrassing.

Blacking or graying out also makes hangxiety ten times worse because you don’t remember what happened that night.

One of the best self care things you can do after a night of partying is give yourself grace. Don’t assume the worst, and try to minimize self criticism.

This one night most likely won’t define the rest of your life. People will forget embarrassing moments, and you’ll eventually move on from any shame.

If you did something truly bad, self criticism won’t fix it. Feel free to take responsibility, and do what you can to make things right. But it’s not helpful to call yourself mean names or take things out on yourself.

stop forcing yourself to finish drinks.

As someone who loves free drinks and being cost efficient, it’s hard to leave an unfinished drink.

Maybe it’s rooted in alcoholism, college life or simply not wanting to waste stuff. But as you get older, you learn that it’s okay to leave a drink if you’re feeling too drunk or sick.

You don’t want to be on the bathroom floor at the club throwing up. You don’t want to be counting down the minutes until you get home while you try not to get sick in the Uber.

You don’t want to black out or go out sad around your friends (all things I’ve done so I know you don’t want that for yourself!)

It’s not the end of the world if you don’t finish your drink, and your future self will thank you!

plan your recovery day before you plan your night out.

Being hungover is one of the worst feelings in the world. You might throw up every 20 minutes, have a massive headache and feel exhausted.

Plan ahead if you think you’ll be hungover by drinking water throughout the night, eating a meal at the end of the night, stocking up on pain killers and minimizing future plans the next morning.

Your recovery day is all about taking it slow and maximizing self care. So add all your favorite things to your plan: take out, clean comfy clothes, hydrating drinks in your fridge, etc.

keep your skincare routine simple when you get home.

Take your makeup off. Take your makeup off. Take your makeup off.

Trying your best to remember to take your make off at the end of the night is step one. But other than that, try to keep your skincare and self care routine simple.

You don’t need a five-step routine before hopping into bed (but isn’t it fun for anyone else to be tipsy and doing self care?)

Keep it as simple as you want, but try to do the basics so you can wake up feeling a little less gross!

stop saying yes to afters when you really want to go home.

Self care is going home when you feel like it. Don’t feel pressured to go to club, club, another club, etc.

Call your ride when you’re feeling ready to leave, whether it’s from being too lit, feeling sick or simply a gut feeling that it’s time to call it a night.

And if you’re driving, make sure you’re sober enough to drive, whether that entails leaving early, staying later to sober up or refusing drinks when you know you’ve reached your limit.

you can be the life of the party and still have boundaries.

Remember that you can have the time of your life and still have boundaries.

If someone is funding your whole night (sections, drinks, ubers, etc.), it doesn’t mean you owe them anything. If someone is being super nice to you and seems like the perfect gentleman, you don’t have to give them your number if you don’t want to.

Boundaries are the ultimate self care. You should feel comfortable and secure while you’re partying.

It can be super hard when you’re drinking and feeling light, but don’t ever let anyone wear you down, or make you do things you wouldn’t normally do sober.
