six ways to romanticize your weekday mornings
Having to go to work when you’re not in the mood is one of the worst feelings ever. And let’s face it, I’m never in the mood.
But I’ve been trying to make myself get more excited about work (or at least less pessimistic) because it doesn’t feel good to constantly want to rush to the weekend.
It doesn’t feel good to have dread on Sundays about having to make it through another work week. A lot of us don’t enjoy working, but making small changes in the morning can make the experience a little more pleasant.
Doing things like planning a delicious breakfast, resetting your space and avoiding social media can change how you view your mornings. Romanticize the start of your day by setting your intentions and getting in the right mindset.
Here are six ways you can romanticize your weekday mornings, so you’re not constantly feeling dread about your work week!
how to romanticize your mornings
plan a yummy drink or breakfast
Caffeine makes me a little less depressed during times when I’m especially dreading work.
I love coffee and matcha. I love the energy it brings me, and I love the way it tastes. Having a sweet treat to look forward to in the morning can 100% alter your view on an early start.
Plan to stop by your favorite cafe on the way to work. Try new recipes at home with different delicious creamers and coffee flavors. Buy various tea flavors that you can test out throughout the week.
If coffee brings you energy and makes the day a little better, romanticize that experience and view it as a nice indulgence, instead of something that’s just a part of your routine.

set your intentions for the day through journaling
I love starting the morning off with some intentional journaling.
Write out how you’re feeling, what you’re excited/anxious/etc. about for the day, what you’re thankful for as you make it to another morning, etc.
Having a grateful heart in the morning completely changes your mindset when you wake up in a bad mood or annoyed that you have to get up.
Not everyone woke up this morning, and it’s a good reminder to be thankful that you made it to another day.

listen to a podcast or music
Shortly after I get out of bed, my headphones go in! I love music, and I love grooving to something while I’m getting ready for the day.
What I put on depends on my mood. Sometimes I need some Ciara or Beyoncé to wake me up and make me feel more positive and excited for the day.
Other times, I need some Summer Walker or Olivia Dean to slowly wake my brain up and ease into the day when I’m not feeling my best emotionally.
Maybe I need some Kirk Franklin or Marvin Sapp when I’m really down bad and need to raise my spirits.
wake up early enough to not rush
As much as I love sleeping in and getting out of bed at the last possible moment, I don’t love the feeling of rushing.
It makes me a little anxious, hot and overwhelmed. Taking the morning slow and taking my time getting ready completely changes my mood.
It makes me feel more in control over my state of being, and I just feel so much better knowing I’m not going to be late for work.
It also gives you more time to treat your body with care, whether that’s making some breakfast, spending more time on your skin care, making sure you’re taking all your vitamins and medicine, etc.

reset your space
I love a clean space. So coming home to a messy bedroom or bathroom from getting ready in the morning can make me feel a little disheveled.
Doing small things like making your bed after waking up or putting your skincare products away after using them can make a difference in how you feel leaving in the morning.
It’s like when you leave for a night out or to go on a trip! You always feel so much better coming back if you left your home in a good place versus throwing everything everywhere and coming back to a tornado.
avoid social media when you wake up
I’m so guilty of immediately grabbing my phone and scrolling through apps when I first open my eyes in the morning.
All that does is give me anxiety, feeling like I missed something when I was asleep and have to catch up on everything to feel sane.
Try to stay off your phone in those first few moments when you’re saying hello to the world. Instead, journal, meditate, make a to-do list or simply get started with your day screen-free.
